Queens County RCMP Investigate Fatal Boating Incident
Two Children Have Passed Away
A release from RCMP indicated that Queens County District RCMP is investigating a fatal boating incident that occurred in West Caledonia. On October 18, at approximately 4:56 p.m., RCMP, EHS, fire services, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) responded to a report of a boater in distress in Lake Rossignol. The responding officers learned a man and three children were in a boat when it overturned.
A search and rescue helicopter successfully located and transported a 45-year-old man and three children from Fall River to hospital. The man and one child suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while two children tragically succumbed to their injuries. The investigation is ongoing. File #: 2025-1551954
According to Nova Scotia RCMP, two children under 10 years old have lost their lives after a boat capsized on Lake Rossignol, N.S. late Saturday. RCMP spokesperson Cindy Bayers confirmed there were four people on board: a 45-year-old man and three children under 10, all from Fall River, N.S. The RCMP does not release details on the relationships between individuals involved.
Lake Rossignol, situated in Queens County, southwestern Nova Scotia, was the scene of a boat capsizing. However, the activities of the individuals beforehand and the cause of the boat overturning are unclear.
Maj. Trevor Ackland of the JRCC advised media professionals via text message that individuals were transported to hospital using a military Cormorant helicopter, based on the advice of paramedics at the scene. Ackland explained that the patients were first taken to CFB Halifax and then transported to hospital. As stated by Bayers, the two surviving individuals sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
